If you’re in a regulated industry where compliance isn’t optional, Cognizant is worth serious consideration. The documented case of boosting insurance claims auto-adjudication from 60% to 95.6% isn’t marketing copy – it’s a published outcome. Fair warning though: their methodology is process-heavy. Control matrices, parallel audit streams, structured governance at every phase. If you want lean and fast, this might feel like overkill.
Infosys
Cobalt plus Topaz is their modernization stack – static code analysis, automated test generation, cloud-native re-platforming. They’ve built a proprietary Modernization Suite specifically to accelerate portfolio assessment and migration planning, which cuts down the painful discovery phase that tends to eat six months before any real work begins. Consistently recognized by Gartner and Forrester – not because of analyst relations spending, but because the delivery model actually holds up under scrutiny.
Capgemini
Strong pick for European enterprises, particularly where GDPR, data sovereignty requirements and country-specific regulatory layers add complexity that most global delivery models quietly ignore. They work across all three major hyperscalers and maintain industry-specific reference architectures for banking, utilities and public sector. If you’re headquartered in Europe and the regulatory environment is part of the modernization challenge – not an afterthought – Capgemini fits naturally.
HCLTech
The combination of deep application management heritage with modern DevOps and microservices engineering is HCLTech’s real differentiator. Ready-built accelerators for mainframe offloading, data modernization and API enablement mean they’re not reinventing the wheel on every engagement. IDC and Forrester consistently place them in the upper tier for legacy modernization – a position they’ve held long enough that it’s clearly not a fluke.
One last thought. When shortlisting a partner for this kind of work, look beyond technical credentials. Examine the commercial model – specifically, who absorbs the risk when timelines slip. Look at whether they can run the transformation in parallel with your live system, without asking you to pause operations while they figure things out. Because “we’ll do brilliant work, just turn off production first” isn’t modernization. That’s just a very expensive gamble.
